Low Red Moon launch new album with headline show at The Night Owl This Friday!

Low Red Moon played the last Slag Mag event before lockdown for International Women’s Day 2019 and absolutely brought the house down with their catchy hooks and warm uplifting energy. Led by the upbeat, enigmatic and passionate front-woman Kaytee Thomson-DeWolfe, who we have featured previously in our printed Slag Mag fanzine for her incredible art (see album artwork and launch party poster – wow!).

There are a lot of incredible bands in Birmingham that are just starting to re-emerge fully after the madness of lockdown. However, Low Red Moon are a band who have somehow managed to keep their presence and a following strong throughout, playing socially distanced shows and then being amongst the first to come back to full capacity shows. They’re seemingly born ready, and clearly really love playing live. The band, and their fans are encouraged to “show their stripes” and regularly show up in black and white striped clothing which always adds to the happy atmosphere of their shows.

Low Red Moon release their brand new album “Companeros” on Friday 15th April, initially as a Bandcamp exclusive and they celebrate with a jam-packed album launch party at The Night Owl in Digbeth.

Compañeros was chosen as it means companions or friends in Spanish, which we all are, and it’s also a nod to our guitarist’s love for spaghetti westerns. When we were recording the album in Wales, we woke one morning to find Dr. Magnets blasting Ennio Morricone at full volume whilst cleaning our shared kitchen, which was too cute for words. I wrote most of the songs but a couple, like singles “Fluid”, “Smoke & Mirrors” and “Full Wolf Moon” came about through jamming collectively, something we are doing more of and will continue to explore.” Kaytee Thomson-Dewolfe

Released through their own label and collaborative community project, Under Coven. It is through this project that Low Red Moon were awarded Arts Council funding.

For their album launch party the have curated an intriguing lineup of bands, DJs and spoken-word artists. Support on the night comes from Staffordshire post-rock group Arapaima, performance poet Sean Thompson-DeWolfe, performance artist Miz E. Laneous with live visuals from VJ Vajazzle.

Also introduced on the night is a brand new club night Halligalli presented by DJ duo Side Step 9 with DJs Ritmos De Fuego, Main Au Hasard & Lysergic Lounge joining Side Step 9 to play a danceable mix of psychedelic rock, funk, dub reggae, zamrock, afro beat and more!
