Floating somewhere between an indie ballad and wintery folk number, newcomer Village Bully has resurrected the romance in Birmingham’s music. Soft and mesmerising, her new single ‘Lift’ released on Sunday, November 10th is a tender ode to someone sentimental, a soft lullaby that holds until heavenly ascending. A short, swift number that washes over you with a serene blanket of calm.
‘Lift’ is the second single from Village Bully, real name being Paige Thomas. Previously fronting the quartet Echo Beach! Paige has taken her music down the avenue of hushed bedroom indie, receiving high acclaim in her new project’s short time. Village Bully’s previous single ‘L.A’ centres around a soft surf rock tone, its riffs soaking up delicate vocals that suddenly turn to a stern tone with “I wish you would leave me alone” repeating until a high impact end.
Village Bully seems to have only been around since the summer, but its a name to keep an eye on. Catch Village Bully at The Mill, Digbeth, on Wednesday, December 18th supporting Swim Deep.
