We’ve been burying our head away in our computers for a fair few weeks, preparing for the second issue of Slag Mag! This one may have crept up on you, but trust us when we say it’s worth shouting about.
Issue 2 of Slag Mag is even more serious and features even more incredible ladies/NB who make our music and arts scene the chaotic, powerful, professional, fun, thrilling and ever changing life force it is. You don’t have long to wait either, as Issue 2 of Slag Mag will be landing on Thursday, August 29th!
Featuring in this edition is Birmingham’s reigning punk Erin Grace, lead singer and bassist of The Cosmics. We got her good and drunk (consensually of course) and talked about how it really is to be part of a ‘female fronted’ (eye roll) band.
On the art front, we have the incredibly talented Beth Nicol, otherwise known as BethOnTwoLegs. She designed our new poster, graphics and front cover, so we just had to shine a light on such a charismatic, bubbly, creative and lovely person!
Also featured in Issue 2: A brief history of Riot Grrl, Elizabeth Ilsley, Bad Girls, Shonenknife and loads more seriously slaggy works of art and music!
As with the launch of the zine comes the launch party! On August 29th we’ll be at the Hare and Hounds in King’s Heath with live music, art stalls, poetry and more! Performing on the night is the fiery Ruth Kokumo, armed with her band Ruth brings an energy to the stage that can’t be matched. She captures attention with her raw vocals and rhythmic blues, similar to the likes of Nina Simone. She’s joined by Bryony Williams, like her inspiration Kim Gordon, Bryony can display fragility, vulnerability and raw emotion in her beautiful indie pop tracks.
Plus, art stalls from Dana Hodgkinson (Sunflowergrl), Beth Nicol and Claire Griffiths (Belles petite) as well as spoken word artists Hayley Frances and Scarlett Ward!
Tickets to our launch party are only £5 advance and include a copy of Issue 2 of Slag Mag. Grab your tickets here.
See you there!
